Founded in 1964 Stamford, Connecticut is a city in Fairfield County and has a population of approximately 119,000. Making it the 4th largest city in the state
"The City That Works!": The city of Stamford is conveniently located about 25 miles northeast of "The Big Apple" - New York City, 40 miles to the southwest of New Haven, as well as about 90 miles south of Connecticut's capitol; Hartford.
Stamford is the location of the North American headquarters for many large companies including about four Fortune 500 Companies and nine Fortune 1000 Companies. In the New York Metro (outside of New York City itself), Stamford has the largest financial district, and perhaps one of the largest concentrations of corporations. So when the city made Stamford's motto "The City That Works", they were not exaggerating!
If you are staying in Stamford for more than just work, be sure to check out some of the major attractions located in the city. For the months June through October, Stamford has a fabulous farmer's market, offering the freshest fruits, vegetables, flowers, baked goods and more! Stamford also hosts a parade in the fall. This is one of the largest helium balloon parades in the country, and features lots of giant balloon characters that are sure to make the whole family smile! There are also many award winning marching bands present as well as great floats. These are only two of many annual events held in Stamford, Connecticut. There are many more including a world class sculpture exhibit, an Arts and Crafts festival, and many musical events.
